British Ski Schools

Finding a British Ski School: Intro

Don’t get us wrong, there are many fantastic national ski schools and the old image of a foreign instructor just saying “Bend ze knees and follow me” are long gone in many French, Swiss, Austrian and Italian ski schools.

However many of us prefer to be taught skiing or snowboarding by someone who speaks English as a native and, most importantly, has a similar sense of humour. As a result there are dozens of British ski schools now operating in the Alps.

Many of the British ski schools employ BASI (British Association of Snowsports Instructors) teachers and they have exactly the same level of qualification as the local ski and board instructors. Indeed some would argue that the BASI standards are higher as the British have had to prove they are as good as the locals and have worked extremely hard over the last decade or so to keep up to date with developments in modern teaching methods.

We answer your Frequently Asked Questions: Why should I bother with a British ski instructor? How many British ski schools are there in the Alps? Are British ski instructors more expensive?

In this guide we show you where the ski/board schools are, what the cost of lessons is and what courses are on offer. There are now over 4,000 British ski and board instructors working across the mountains.

DON'T FORGET: Many of the British run ski schools will give a discount to Ski Club members.
