Snowfall across Europe promises great half-term skiing
It has undoubtedly been a slow season so far for much of Europe, but how things have changed... The Pyrenees and the northern Alps have seen up to two metres of snow in the past ten days. This has transformed the skiing conditions, setting a great base in time for the half term holidays and also for the rest of the season.

For the second time this season, the Pyrenees have seen such an intense period of snowfall that very rare Level 5 avalanche warnings have been raised across the mountain range. Up to two metres of fresh snow has fallen during the week, accompanied by strong winds and, more recently, mild temperatures.

The depth of the snowpack across the Alps is now back to average in time for the half term holidays, but sadly this has come at a price. Already 75 deaths from avalanches have been recorded in European mountains this winter; much higher than average.
