Although summer may have finally arrived in the UK, things are looking very different in the Southern Hemisphere as the ski season has really begun to kick off.

The past winter certainly provided us with a rollercoaster ride. The extremely slow start in Europe was made up for by plentiful late-season snowfall; Scotland had a cracker, Bulgaria and the Pyrenees caught some huge snowstorms, as did the east coast of North America.

The depth of the snowpack across the Alps is now back to average in time for the half term holidays, but sadly this has come at a price. Already 75 deaths from avalanches have been recorded in European mountains this winter; much higher than average.

It has undoubtedly been a slow season so far for much of Europe, but how things have changed... The Pyrenees and the northern Alps have seen up to two metres of snow in the past ten days. This has transformed the skiing conditions, setting a great base in time for the half term holidays and also for the rest of the season.
