Wednesday was another fine day at the British Land National Championships in Meribel and another early start to watch the big event of the day, the Super G.
With warm temperatures in resort, the first race, the ladies Super G, took place on the upper part of the Stade piste. As predicted Chemmy Alcott got her second title of the champs beating Pam Thorburn and Sega Fairweather respectively. She is now 2009 Downhill and Super G British Champion.

The mens race produced some exciting competition on the tricky course. With Noel Baxter, Andy Noble and TJ Baldwin all skiing out the course, Ski Club sponsored Ed Drake skied to top spot on the podium followed by closely by Dougie Crawford and Dave Ryding. After missing out on a podium finish yesterday, Ed seemed very pleased with his win: “I had a good race today, I nailed the tougher sections, there were places where I was a little far off but I’m really happy to take the title today."

After two sunny days and warm weather, a front seems to be moving in and snow may well fall over the next two days which hopefully won't disrupt the racing too much. Meribel is still buzzing with activity and as well as the Champs the Altitude festival continues to bring celebs to the slopes and laughs to the bars and there was even a Freestyle comp in the Nissan park in Mottaret with some top class snowboarders throwing some moves. Ski Club Rep John Byrne took part and we are waiting to hear how well he has done.
