Olympic hopeful for 2010 and Ski Club sponsored skier Ed Drake will be taking place in the event alongside Graham Bell who himself is a former Olympic downhill skier and also Iain Martin who is the Managing Director of Natives. Natives and the Ski Club often work together during the winter at various events across the mountains. Ed Drake came to the Ski Club offices a few weeks ago and you can watch his interview with us on SkiTV.co.uk.
The BananaMan Triathlon is a unique race in that it can be completed as a team time trial, a team relay event or an individual event.
The event is a triathlon, consisting of an 800 metre open water swim, followed by a 30km bike ride and finally a 7.5km run. It is a tough race and the competition level is high. It is important for Ed that his fitness remain high throughout the summer in order for a good outcome this winter.
The event is taking place at Dorney Lake, Windsor, which is also the venue rowing in the 2012 London Olympics. The winning team normally completes the course in less than 1 hour 40 minutes.
In last years event the Ski Club’s Alyn Morgan competed in the same team alongside Graham and Iain. They finished an impressive 6th place out of 43 teams. Alyn said, “The event is superb and despite Graham raising concerns over his running ability he pushed us to try and catch the group in front”. Alyn has decided not to compete in this year’s event.
The Ski Club of Great Britain will have a full report on the event in July.
