It just keeps snowing
Thursday 15 October 2009
Plenty of fresh snow has fallen across Austria this week, as well as parts of Switzerland and Italy and in many places it continues to fall. There is fresh powder to found even down at low levels in some Austrian resorts and temperatures are set to stay cold.

It's been snowing hard in Austria this week, even as low as 650m in some resorts. The glacier resorts had a big boost to their snow depths and the cold weather means that the fresh snow is being kept wonderfully powdery! The Mölltal Glacier received 80cm of new snow on the upper half of the area this weekend, and the Hintertux ski area also received loads of snow as well, with 45cm falling at resort level and cold temperatures up on the glacier; so wrap up warm. More snow is expected to fall in Austria between Thursday and Sunday, with Hintertux alone expecting a further 38cm of snow.
Eastern Switzerland has also benefitted from this week's snowfall, with Davos-Klosters, and Engelberg both turning into a winter wonderfland overnight. Lying further West, Saas Fee and Zermatt didn't get quite so much snow, but a few cm's on Tuesday freshened up conditions in both their open ski areas.
In Italy, Val Senales is currently open for skiing and snow is expected over the weekend, with up to 21cm of new snow forecast by Sunday.
France and Western Switzerland haven't fared so well, but Tignes did receive 5cm of new snow up on the glacier so there is skiing to be found on the upper runs. Our winter snow reports start on 2nd November, but until then, keep checking our snow overview updated twice weekly.
