The sale of Copper Mountain, which will follow the sale of the company’s European resort Les Arcs and Flaine earlier this year, means the company will own only two resorts in Colorado this season - Steamboat and Winter Park.
Negotiations are expected to come to a close in December, but tri-area passes offered by Intrawest this autumn for the three Colorado resorts will still be valid despite the ownership change at Copper Mountain.
Intrawest continues to operate nine ski resorts in North America, including Stratton and Mountain Creek on the on the USA’s East coast and Panorama Mountain Village and Tremblant in Canada. The Vancouver-based company also retains 2010 Olympic venue Whistler, which recently grabbed headlines when it broke its November snow record.
Powdr Corp now operates eight resorts across the US including 2002 Olympic venue Park City, Utah and Killington in Vermont. Copper Mountain will be the company’s ninth ski resort and its first Colorado acquisition.
