Following a gruelling series of quarter and semi finals, Gillings put in her best performance of the winter season so far to finish 6th overall at the latest round of the LG FIS Snowboard World Cup Snowboard Cross tour in Bad Gastein.
Gillings, who ranked 4th during the qualification round, was thrilled with the result; “I’m really happy with my starts today as I have been practising these over the summer” said Gillings after the race. “I also beat the World No 1 who is one of the favourites for gold in Vancouver in February, so overall I’m really happy with the result.”
The British snowboarder is currently ranked 10th at this stage of the Snowboard Cross World Cup tour, which continues to Veysonnaz, Switzerland on 15 January followed by two stops in Canada in Stoneham (21 January) and Calgary (30 January). The tour culminates on 21 March with the final in La Molina, Spain.
