Located above Lake Annecy at 1704m, the addition of small French resort Semnoz to the Peak Retreats portfolio has been considered a real coup by the French Alps specialist.
"I can guarantee virtually no one in the UK has heard about that one" said Peak Retreats Director Xavier Schouller. "It is small but very family and beginner focussed".
Despite its small size, Semnoz is carving a niche amongst the major players in the French Alps thanks to some exceptionally low lift pass prices.
Skiing at the resort, which offers 18 pistes and 11 lifts, costs just €8 for adults for a full day mid-week rising to €12 a day at weekends or on French school holiday dates. With lifts open from 9am to 5pm daily, this means that an hour’s skiing mid-week could cost as little as €1.
The resort also offers a two hour pass for €5 on a pay-as-you-ski system that allows you to start your time on the slopes at any point during the day. Otherwise a six-day pass costs €60 for adults, almost a quarter of the price of a six day pass for the Three Valleys.
As an added bonus the Semnoz season pass, which costs €138, "gets you about three days in the 3 Valleys" according to Peak Retreats Director Xavier Schouller. Compared to a three-day adult pass for the Three Valleys, which costs €137 on its own, the Semnoz pass offers a very good deal.
In addition to its cheap lift passes, Semnoz also boasts an ESF ski school, a kindergarten, a snowshoeing area, a toboggan slope, 46km of cross country slopes, restaurants and a direct bus link to Annecy.
