As reported at www.chamonet.com, the 51 year old man was apprehended by gendarmes from the PGHM (Peloton de Gendarmerie de Haute Montagne or High Mountain Security) after posing as a mountain guide to a group of 10 clients.
The Lyonnais man, who had allegedly been carrying out illegal guiding for 15 years, had been using an official PGHM medal and badge to fool his clients, some of who believed he had written a book about his mountain experiences.
The man claimed he did not charge clients for his services – he did not have the “brevet d’état” qualification, necessary for anyone receiving payment for guiding or sports coaching – but clients said they had found him via the internet prior to skiing the famous off-piste resort with the unqualified guide.
It is expected that the man will have to face the Bonneville courts on charges of working illegally and of endangering people’s lives, the article on www.chamonet.com continued. The “guide marron” or “crooked guide” as he has been dubbed, is currently on bail.
