As the female Freeride World Tour riders did not compete in the Nissan Russian Adventure by Swatch, Fieberbrunn formed the backdrop for the second stop in the women’s Freeride World Tour on Saturday 13 February with the Scott Big Mountain event.
Norway proved they were a force to be reckoned with at the event - which counts as a FWT qualifier for the men but a fully fledged competition for the women - as Ane Enderud, who had to drop out of competing at the Nissan Freeride de Chamonix Mont-Blanc due to back problems, took the top spot in the skiing competition.
Enderud’s compatriot Vivian Aasen took bronze in the women’s snowboarding and Austria also secured two podium spots with Lorraine Huber coming third in the skiing and Liz Kristoferitsch securing silver in the snowboarding. The leaderboard was completed by Janette Hargin of Sweden, second in the skiing and Aline Bock, who won the snowboarding for Germany following a third place in Chamonix.
The European sweep took place on Fieberbrunn’s north east facing Wildseeloder, a varied face with steep and technical elements as well as open spaces for fast and playful riding. “Ane made the most complete run of the female skiers” commented head skiing judge Martin Winkler “skiing really fluid even at the technical part of the face with a good flow all the way down, taking several airs, including sticking a big drop into the main couloir without any hesitation."
Snowboard winner Aline Bock also made the most of her run in Fieberbrunn “bib no. two was a big advantage today. Snow conditions were just perfect for me. It was also good not to have too much time to get nervous on start. First, I wasn’t happy with my bib number but it turned out so well. It was great fun to be part of the Scott Big Mountain and riding here”
The men’s and women’s competition moves to Squaw Valley for the Nissan Tram Face on 27 February before the grand finale in Verbier on 20 March at the Nissan Xtreme by Swatch. For more information visit the Freeride World Tour website.
