Following two top 40 results in the Downhill and Super G, Ed Drake went one better on Sunday 21 February improving on his performance in Downhill leg of the Men’s Super Combined to take 29th place overall following a strong Slalom run.
"It's by best finish of the Games" commented the reigning British Champion after the event. "I would have liked to get into the top-30 on the speed run, but I missed that by twelve hundredths of a second" said Drake commenting on his 33rd placing in the Downhill run.
"The feedback from the coaches has been that what they’ve seen is good" continued the ski racer. "It’s not easy to get to the top, it doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s all pointing in the right direction. My performances here have been pretty good. I’ve improved on my bib number in every race and I think I’ve put up a good showing".
Drake is competing in his first Olympics and is showing great promise for Sochi 2014. The alpine skier also has two further events to compete in during the Vancouver games and is relishing the opportunity. "I'm loving every moment of it here. It's great to start around these guys. They're the pinnacle of the sport and that’s where I’m aiming to be".
Drake is due to compete in the Men’s Giant Slalom on Tuesday 23 February, where he will be joined by team mates Andy Noble and Dave Ryding in their first performances of the games.
