The Whistler snow forecast on Wednesday 24 February
|
After last receiving snow on 16 February, Whistler is now in the throws of another snow dump as day 13 of the competition marches on. As reported in our snow reports, over half a metre is expected by the end of Sunday 28 February – the closing day of the 2010 games – with the most forecast to fall on Wednesday and Friday.
The snow caused visibility issues on Franz's Run for the first leg of the Ladies' Giant Slalom – featuring Team GB's Chemmy Alcott – on Wednesday 24 February.
Following persistent delays during which organiser's hoped the skies would clear, the second run of the Ladies' Giant Slalom has now been postponed until Thursday 25 February. The Ladies' and Men’s Slalom events are at present still scheduled to run on Friday and Saturday as planned.
There is currently no alpine skiing scheduled on the final day of the Olympics so it could be possible, organisation allowing, for events to be postponed until Sunday if the 16cm of snow expected on both Wednesday and Friday causes further problems at Whistler Creekside.
