After an introduction to ski racing at the Milton Keynes Xscape, Glasgow-born Kwame’s first real taste of snow came after a chance meeting with Base Camp Director Fergie Miller at the 2003 London Ski Show.
The organisation has sponsored Kwame ever since, offering him his first opportunity to ski in the mountains and supporting him on his journey to the 2010 Winter Olympics.
The Ski Club has followed Snow Leopard Kwame’s story from his first Olympics dreams in 2004, through his unrelenting fundraising efforts to news of his Vancouver 2010 qualification.
Now, after a long wait, Ghana’s only athlete in the games is finally about to step up to the start gate for the Men’s Slalom on Saturday 27 February.
“It has been a pleasure to support Kwame while training and competing to qualify for the Olympics over the past 6 years” said Base Camp Director Fergie Miller. “We’re excited that this moment has finally arrived, and are drumming up large amounts of support out in Whistler”.
Kwame will join Team GB’s Andy Noble and Dave Ryding as the men contest the final alpine skiing medal of the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics – the Men's Slalom at Whistler Creekside.
