After early conditions at the X Paralympic Winter Games caused delays for the speed events, all five alpine skiing disciplines were able to go ahead at Whistler Creekside with five top ten places secured for Great Britain.
Of the seven ParalympicsGB athletes, visually impaired skier Kelly Gallagher was the highest ranked, narrowly missing out on the podium with a 4th place in the Ladies’ Giant Slalom. Gallagher also did well in the Slalom event coming in 6th overall, whilst teammate Anna Turney came 6th in the sitting category.
Also securing two top ten finishes was Sean Rose who skied into 7th in the Men’s Downhill and 8th in the Slalom. Rose had hoped for better after wins in the IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup earlier this season but unfortunately it was not to be for the sit skier.
“I’m not going away with the satisfaction of a medal, but I have had the satisfaction of knowing I came best prepared with the best support staff” said the racer, who had been hotly tipped for the podium. “I have had a great season when I look back and I’m really looking for to next year’s World Championships in Sestriere”.
Rose had the honour of being the ParalympicsGB flag bearer at the closing ceremony on Sunday 21 March in the Whistler Medals Plaza where the official handover to Sochi for the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games took place.
