It has been a game of cat and mouse between spring and winter on the slopes of Europe in recent weeks but this weekend winter is set to win with snow already falling in resorts in Italy and in a peppering of resorts in France and Switzerland.
Friday 26 March looks set to be a good day for snow across many resorts. Ski Club rep resorts Saas Fee and Zermatt are expecting 21cm and 18cm respectively with snow continuing into Saturday.
The skies are then expected to clear on Sunday providing a good opportunity to enjoy the snowfalls. Both resorts are then expecting a snow dump on Tuesday.
The pattern is also one expected in Italy where it is already snowing in Cervinia and Alagna. The resorts are expecting 15cm and 14cm apiece on Friday followed by light snow on Saturday and a heavier dump on Tuesday.
In France Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes are expecting similar conditions, although with heavier snow on Saturday than Friday. 23cm is expected in both resorts on Saturday followed by a sunny spell from Sunday and more snow from Tuesday next week.
Austria is also expecting a cold and snowy spell although not as much as France. The influx of wintry weather does however mean that the freezing level could drop to 900m by mid week next week, good news for low lying resorts.
North America snow news It has been snowing in Whistler, Canada and the resort is due a snowy weekend with 36cm expected over the course of Saturday and Sunday and a further 22cm on Monday.
In the USA, resorts in California and Nevada should get another snowstorm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday next week whilst Timberline, Oregon is due a snow dump over Sunday and Monday with 38cm expected.
