As this picture taken by chalet company YSE in Val d'Isere early on Sunday 28 March shows, there were some great snowfalls in France this weekend. The Espace Killy resort reported 35cm of fresh snow on Sunday, whilst neighboring Tignes had 50cm on Saturday 27 March.
Other resorts also benefitted, including Alpe d’Huez where Ski Club rep Robert Dixson got in some early fresh tracks on Sunday 28 March. “The pisteurs were busy last night” he commented in Sunday’s rep snow report “but they couldn't keep up with the amount of snow that fell overnight”.
When selected to track the 50 largest recent snowfalls, our last snowed top 50, showed 27 French resorts in total received 20cm or more in a single day over the period 26-28 March, meaning France is one of the best places to be this week for powder skiing.
Also in the top 50 are Italian resorts such as Sestriere and Sauze D’Oulx, which both received 30cm on Sunday and Leysin and Les Mosses in Switzerland which had 25cm apiece. Austria also had a snowy weekend but not as much as its neighbours with dustings on higher slopes.
Over in North America there were also some great snow dumps as Big White and Silver Star in British Columbia received around 35cm each on Friday 26 March. Dump of the weekend however went to Timberline, which had 56cm on Friday.
