After Peetu Piiroinen and Enni Rukajärvi were crowned male and female Swatch TTR 2010 World Champions, it was just the World Snowboard Federation World Rookie Championship up for grabs, awarded to the highest ranking male and female snowboarders on the TTR rookie circuit.
Following a season of rookie events it all came down to the 4Star Protest World Rookie Finals 2010 in Ischgl on Saturday 10 April with riders taking on a park setup including three jumps up to 18m, a hip and finishing with a jib section.
Putting down a run consisting of a cab 900, frontside 720, backside 720 and a double backside rodeo on the final hip, 18 year old Roope Tonteri secured the World Rookie Champion crown for the second season in a row as well as 8th place in the overall men’s TTR rankings.
Tonteri, who competed against Peetu Piiroinen in the 6Star Oakley Arctic Challenge coming seventh, was joined by Austrian Clemens Schattschneider and Sweden’s Sven Thorgren on the podium. In the women’s competition Polish Katarzyna Rusin took the top spot, followed by Hungarian Anna Gyarmati and Finnish Silja Suitiala in third.
The results of the rookie contest mean that Finland takes away three championship titles from the 2010 season, as well as five overall podium placings. The Swatch TTR 2010 World Snowboard Tour officially concludes on 27 April in Ramundberget Ski Resort, Sweden.
