A number of resorts across North America closed this weekend including the Ski Club rep resorts of Sun Peaks in Canada and Aspen in the USA. For resorts that closed in Colorado and Utah in particular, closing weekend proved to be a season highlight thanks to bumper snowfalls last week.
There were also closures in Europe including several in Austria among which were Ski Club rep resorts Mayrhofen and Kitzbuhel. The Ski Club rep resort of Sauze d’Oulx in Italy also ended its winter operations along with fellow Milky Way resorts Claviere and Sestriere.
These were joined by a scattering of closures in Switzerland, Germany, Bulgaria and France however on the whole the season is still going strong in Europe, especially in France. “There is still plenty of snow and the skiing is good” said the Val d’Isere rep snow report for Sunday 11 April.
Val d’Isere is expecting 10cm of fresh snow to fall by the end of Monday 12 April with the same amount expected in fellow Espace Killy resort Tignes. 8-10cm is also expected in the Three Valleys resorts of Meribel, Courchevel and Val Thorens.
In Switzerland Saas Fee, Verbier and Zermatt are expecting around 7-8cm of fresh snow on Monday 12 April whilst over the border Cervinia is due 8cm. Dustings are also forecast for Austria with Hintertux expecting 6cm.
Following this week’s skiing the weekend of 17-18 April should see the closure of our reported Andorran resorts as well as more resorts in Austria, France, Italy, Switzerland and the USA. The weekend of 24-25 April should also be a big closing weekend.
