As reported at www.guardian.co.uk 45-year-old chalet chef John Harris from Cornwall had been celebrating the end of the season with Crystal colleagues before the attack occurred in a car park in the Italian resort of Canazei.

According to Crystal spokeswomen Marion Telsnig, Harris and his fellow staff had organised a barbecue before going to local bar the Spekkeller. "The guys left at 2.30am but John stayed on and now he says he simply doesn't remember what happened next" said Telsnig.

Police found Harris unconscious and stripped of all his clothes bar a singlet at 6.30am on Sunday suffering from hypothermia. The 45-year-old also had broken ribs, a damaged spleen and multiple bruises, injuries thought to have been inflicted by a wooden railing torn from a nearby house.

The British season worker was interviewed by Police on Monday 12 April who are also questioning a local man in connection with the attack. "We believe both men were drunk and began to argue inside the bar" said Captain Alessandro Firinu of the local carabinieri.

"In that state you need little to find a motive for fighting, but the alcohol leaves you vulnerable to the cold" added Firinu. "The mystery is where Harris's clothes are. The man we are interviewing refuses to say and we have no idea".
