Spring ski touring in Scotland

Mike Jardine spent 11 hours ski touring in the Cairngorms on Sunday 18 April amidst 12cm of fresh snow
Stunning scenery, untouched snow, heart-pounding ascents and exhilarating descents – ski touring is undeniably one of the ultimate mountain adventures on offer both abroad and here in the UK.
“We had an excellent day with fresh powder on the tops” commented keen skier Mike Jardine, whose photos from a day "doing the Four Tops” (four 4000 feet peaks) in the Cairngorms sum up some of the many appeals of ski touring.
Providing you are physically fit, ski touring is a pursuit available to many snowsport fans. For those keen to give it a try, Ski Frestracks run annual touring skills weekends in Europe which include off piste technique, instruction on climbing with skins and mountain awarenes.
Ski Freshtracks also offer a wide variety of touring holidays and safaris during the winter season including popular itineraries such as the Haute Route.
Ski touring in Cairngom can be organised through outdoor activity company G2 Outdoor, which arranges two and four day introduction and intermediate ski touring excursions as well as off-piste day tours from their base in Aviemore.
