As reported at www.nzski.com, over 1500 skiers and snowboarders, including two groups who had camped out overnight to be the first on the slopes, were on hand to welcome in the first day of the winter season at Coronet Peak on Saturday 5 June.
The 2010 season sees the debut of the Meadows Express, and it fell to 15 year olds Andrew Benington, Conor Dolman, Jonty Norton and Connor Gambels to become the first season pass holders to ride the quad chairlift.
Whilst those present for the resort’s official opening where treated to what the resort tweeted as “a glorious day”, those riding this week will be able to reap the benefits of 15cm of fresh snow received on the Sunday of opening weekend as well as a further 20cm on Monday 7 June.
According to our snow reports, Coronet Peak is also currently forecast a further 35cm of snow over the next nine days from Tuesday 8 June, which will help add to the resort’s current snow base of 47cm.
The south island resort’s sister destinations of Mt Hutt and The Remarkables are not yet open for the winter season however Mt Hutt is scheduled to open on Saturday 12 June and The Remarkables a week later on 19 June.
