After closing in early May, Val Senales in Italy’s Sud Tirol region is reopening for the summer snowsports season from Saturday 12 June with lifts on the Schnalstal Glacier operating from 7.30am until 1pm daily, accessed via the glacier cable car.
Piping it to the post, Chile’s Valle Nevado resort is opening for winter on Friday 11 June with two new lifts and five new slopes including the humorously named Toy en Reunión (I’m in a Meeting) and Chao Smog (Bye Smog) pistes.
Also in the southern hemisphere, Mount Hutt in New Zealand will join fellow south island resort Coronet Peak when it opens on Saturday 12 June. To celebrate, the resort is awarding the first riders on the lifts it’s sought after ‘first-on-the-quad’ and ‘first-on-the-summit’ t-shirts.
The coming weekend is also a big one for Australian snowsports with Falls Creek, Mount Buller, Mount Baw Baw, Mount Hotham, Selwyn Snowfields and Thredbo all opening for business on Saturday 12 June whilst Perisher is due to open on Friday 11 June.
