According to the weather forecast generated on Thursday 17 June, Argentina’s winter season is due to get off to a snowy start with our reported resorts of Cerro Catedral and Las Lenas both expecting snow ahead of their 2010 opening on Saturday 19 June.
Both resorts are expecting snow over the course of Thursday and Friday, 40cm in Las Lenas and 17cm at Cerro Catedral, which should provide some excellent conditions for visitors taking the first runs of the season over the coming weekend.
In neighbouring Chile, Portillo announced on Tuesday 15 June that it would be postponing its opening date from 19 June until Saturday 26 June, however the good news is that as the resort is expecting nearly a metre of snow by the end of Friday 25 June.
Valle Nevado, which opened on 11 June, is expecting 72cm of snow over the next two days whilst El Colorado, open since 3 June, is due 60cm. Chapa Verde, La Parva and Termas de Chillan, which have yet to open for the winter season, are also expecting a snowy run up to the weekend.
Valle Nevado, El Colorado and Portillo as well as Las Lenas had previously reported fresh snow on Tuesday 15 June, as our summer snow reports last snowed data shows. Cerro Catedral reported snow on Saturday 12 June.
