A new walking route at CairnGorm Mountain – “The Walk @ the Top” – will offer 140 hikers a day the chance to access the peak’s summit as part of a 6-month trial given the go-ahead by Scottish Natural Heritage and the Highland Council.
Running from 17 July until 31 October, the trail aims to give hikers the opportunity to experience the Cairngorm plateau; the most extensive area over 3000ft in the British Isles and one of Europe’s largest wilderness areas.
“Through this type of activity, visitors become fully engaged with the mountain landscape and this will lead to greater understanding of the significance of the Cairngorms National Park mountain heartland” commented CairnGorm Mountain Ltd CEO Ian Whitaker.
The walk, which is a 1 ½ hour circular route beginning at the Coire Cas Car Park accessed by the funicular, will be run in groups of no more than ten. It includes a steady 486ft ascent and goes over rough and uneven terrain.
Several walks will take place daily, weather permitting, at a cost of £13pp (£10 for children, £12 for seniors) which includes a return journey on the mountain railway. To book follow the links from CairnGorm website after 15 July or call 01479 861341.
