Almost 100 competitors took part in the Dual Slalom and around 70 in the Giant Slalom during a fun filled day of racing. The ski standard was high, but this didn’t stop there being a few crash-outs as the racers fought for the top positions.
The first race of the day was the Dual Slalom where teams competed head to head in a relay race. After the group stages, a fierce knock out round saw ‘Team J’ win by a narrow margin in the final race.
This was followed by Giant Slalom where the youngest competitor, just six years old, set a good standard of racing for everyone to follow. The winners were Jemima Barnes, first in the female category, and Matthew Thompson, top in the men’s race.
The atmosphere was great with many of the spectators embracing the cold to cheer on the racers from the balcony. After everyone had raced, there was prize giving in the Edge bar for the top three males and females in the GS and the top 3 Dual Slalom teams.
The Ed Drake Invitational was organised to help fund Ed’s ongoing ski racing journey as he looks towards the 2010/11 season and beyond to the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic Games. To keep up to date with Ed’s progress visit www.edwarddrake.co.uk.
