The British Olympic Association’s Generation 2018 project aims to build on the success of skeleton athlete Amy Williams at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics with a view to creating a solid Team GB for the 2018 Winter Olympics.
This month a training camp run by the British Olympic Association in partnership with the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme will see 22 young athletes from nine winter sports benefit from physical conditioning and injury prevention sessions and learn how to train to win.
Six skiers and one snowboarder are taking part in the programme; three from Alpine Skiing, two from Cross-Country Skiing and one each from the increasingly popular sports of Ski and Snowboard Cross.
Athletes from Biathlon, Bobsleigh, Curling, Figure Skating and Ice Hockey will also be present at the camp which according to Generation 2018 Director Mike Hay is designed to give young athletes “valuable experience of a multi-sport environment”.
Hay, who is also Olympic Performance Manager for the BOA, added that the camp’s mix of educational and physical activity was aimed to created “well-rounded athletes”. The camp began on 25 July and concludes on 30 July.
