Top 5 Apres Ski Resorts
Whether it is dancing on the tables, drinking shots of local schnapps or cosying up for a quiet drink in a wood-panelled bar, everyone is partial to a bit of apres ski - so here are our top choices for where to go this winter:
Everyone loves a bit of après ski, even if its just a quiet beer at the end of a tough day on the slopes. But for those of you looking to let you hair down in the evenings you can't beat this selection of resorts - and the skiing isn't bad too...
St Anton (Austria)
The bars of St Anton kick off in the early afternoon and continue through until the early hours. Of these, the Krazy Kanguruh is the best place to start the evening (or quite often in St Anton’s case the afternoon), although be careful as there is a short ski down back into town. On the way stop at the Mooserwirt - this is St Anton’s best and is rumoured to sell more beer per square metre than any other bar in Austria. For more of a traditional pub vibe then head to the Piccadilly Bar, a British themed pub, or Pub 37 - the smallest in St Anton.
To experience what St Anton has to offer and to sample its legendary nightlife, book on to a Ski Club Freshtracks holiday heading there this winter.
Laax has a huge number of bars and clubs which go on long into the night and the resorts’ reputation as a freestyle mecca definitely helps with the après atmosphere. From mid-afternoon the parks empty and everyone congregates around the bottom of the slopes to create a buzzing atmosphere. The WaWa tent plays some of Europe’s best dance music, there’s DJs and live music at the Tegia Larnags and Indy Bar really gets going as the sun sets. Later on however, the hub of the Laax après scene is the legendary Riders Palace. This has fast become one of the world’s best après ski venues and can host as many as 1,500 people.
Les 2 Alpes (France)
The party town of Les 2 Alpes is renowned for its nightlife. There are 40 bars and pubs positioned within walking distance along the main street. In the afternoon, Le Pano at 2600m is the place to be, with the partying beginning at 3pm with a DJ playing until 5pm. The party continues down the mountain afterwards, with the likes of Pub Windsor (a good budget option offering a choice of around 100 beers) and Smithy’s Tavern (popular with Brits and seasonaires) being two of the best options. If you’re looking to continue the party into the early hours, the Avalanche Club is the place to go.
There are still Ski Club Freshtracks holidays heading to Les 2 Alpes this winter, with course only and accommodation-included options available. Les 2 Alpes is the newest addition to our list of Ski Club Instructor Led Guiding resorts.
Livigno has a whopping 150 bars (more than any resort in the world) to choose from. It is also one of the few tax free party spots - which will go a long way to knocking chunks off your bar bill, making this one of the most affordable après ski locations. The Kuhstall is a good place to start the evening before following the music around the town by dropping into whichever bar is busiest. Cielo is the main disco and keeps going until 4am, however a large number of the other venues stay open until this time as well. Alternatively, for live music lovers, Club Bivio has an excellent cellar bar with numerous acts performing each night.
Pas de la Casa (Andorra)
Pas de la Casa is one of the best resorts in the world for après ski, with many Ibiza DJs moving over here each winter. As a result partying here doesn’t peak until midnight and most bars will stay open until 3am and clubs at 4am. The Red Lion has a reputation for its expansive shots menu, whereas CBbC is the sister club to Ibiza’s Cala Bassa Beach Club. This is located on the mountain and the music starts at 3pm before carrying on into the evening. Underground is another club which hosts a number of Ibiza resident DJ’s playing a wide variety of music.
If you’re up to a full day’s skiing after a night of partying then there is a Ski Club Leader in neighbouring Soldeu until April 7th.
