Top 5: Ski+board Features of the Season

Ever wondered what goes in to making an industry leading magazine? We look back on the season with Ski+board Deputy Editor Harriet Johnston.

From skiing in North Korea to flying high in St Moritz, this season Ski+board has taken in and reported in every aspect of snowsports. We’ve sent our writers to mountain ranges across the globe to the very heart of the action - be that providing tips on how to dodge trees when skiing in the forest, or closer to home to report on Chemmy Alcott’s Ski Club related pregnancy.

Top 5

Ski+board has consistently been at the very centre of the snowsports industry, constantly evolving yet indisputably a core source of news for Ski Club members and beyond. Alongside engaging features and exclusive news stories, our regular sections have grown to be well respected and loved within our readership. The ski tests are a great example of this, where the Ski Club’s test team of ex-Olympians, instructors and Ski Club staff review the latest kit, or the fitness pages, where Craig shows us the best means to get your body in shape for the upcoming season. Exposure features the best snaps from the snowsports world from both established and up-and-coming photographers, while technique can offer tips and titbits about how you can take your skiing to the next level.

Work for Ski+board begins long before the first snow falls that season, with decisions made and stories decided almost a full year in advance of the production of the magazine. A clear example of this is the North Korea feature in Issue 1 - Andres Hofer had been trying for years to get skiing in North Korea, and it was a sure set that we would be keen to feature it in the magazine in 16/17. In contrast, Louise Hall’s story in issue 4 about the ski instructor ruling in France, which was somewhat unexpected and therefore not catered for with the magazine, had to be pulled together in the last few weeks. Ski+board is constantly evolving, weary of trends that are coming up, conscious of our readers’ interest but also striving to test the new and unexpected.

As the oldest and most established ski magazine, you can expect more great things from Ski+board 17/18. Watch. This. Space.
