A 19 year old ‘Marathon’ chocolate bar wrapper was one of the items unearthed at the mountain clean-up day organised by the Ski Club of Great Britain

The Ski Club of Great Britain and Snow+Rock raise nearly £3,000 for Disability Snowsport UK. (30 April 2009)
A series of events held at the beginning of the ski season, organised by Snow+Rock and the Ski Club of Great Britain has raised £2947 for Disability Snowsport UK.

Late Season Skiing – the best snow for 25 years! (17 March 2009)
Conditions in the Alps and Pyrenees are as good as they have been for 25 years, according to the Ski Club of Great Britain. Skiers and boarders wanting to get to the Alps for a break over the Easter holidays will find pistes in excellent condition with good snow cover off-piste and deep snow bases.

Ski Club of Great Britain appoints new Head of Marketing (13 February 2009)
The Ski Club of Great Britain has appointed Bridget Cassey as Head of Marketing. Bridget, who has already taken over the role, is responsible for the planning and development of the Ski Club’s strategic marketing direction. Bridget joins from Publicis Dialog where she was Group Account Director responsible for Powergen and subsequently E.ON, plus TranSys the developers and owners of Oystercard.

Olympic skier Alain Baxter has launched his first ever official calendar - with a twist. The GB Olympic skier has just completed a 'nude shoot' to raise money as part of his renewed bid for slalom glory at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The calendar features twelve shots of Alain taken by top photographer Trevor Yerbury - most of them nude, but all done in the best possible taste.

NEW CAMPAIGN AIMS TO HELP SKI BUSINESSES GO GREEN AND CUT COSTS (07 November 2008)
Ski businesses and resorts are being urged to become greener and more cost efficient with the help of a new campaign. The new online guide www.makesnowsportsgreener.com is central to the campaign and uses film clips, top tips and practical step-by-step guidelines to show how sustainable practices can be implemented successfully.

New instructional DVD from the Ski Club of Great Britain and BASI released (30 October 2008)
The Ski Club of Great Britain and the British Association of Snowsports Instructors (BASI) have released the next DVD in the Skiing Skills series with ‘Skiing Skills - piste performance’ a instructional DVD aimed at intermediate and expert skiers wanting to perfect their carving.

Ski Club of Great Britain support Snowsport GB in launch of new Talent Trail initiative (22 October 2008)
Snowsport GB will launch a new talent identifying initiative ‘Talent Trail’ at this year’s Metro Ski and Snowboard Show with the aim of identifying potential skiing stars of the future by working with the British Ski Schools, Clubs & Academies to identify the up and coming talent which will then be fed into Britain’s elite training programmes.

Free Skiing for Kids - Ski Club of Great Britain offers ski bursary to schools (24 September 2008)
Secondary schools across the UK are being given the chance to apply for a ski bursary scheme run by the Ski Club of Great Britain. Launched last autumn, the bursary of £500 per school will be awarded to six schools and used to give children a chance to give skiing or snowboarding a go.

Snow+Rock and Ski Club host ‘Prepare for Snow’ talks (17 September 2008)
This autumn the Ski Club of Great Britain and Snow+Rock are running a series of informative ‘Prepare for Snow’ talks. From off-piste safety and avalanche awareness to all terrain technique and pre-slope fitness, talks will be held at selected Snow+Rock stores, to prepare skiers and snowboarders for the winter ahead.

Scottish Big Spring Clean - The Results (10 June 2008)
This weekend saw the first ever Big Spring Clean organised by the Ski Club of Great Britain take place in two of the Scottish ski areas where over 100 skiers and mountain enthusiasts came and picked up more than 70 bags of litter following the end of the winter season.

The Ski Club of Great Britain is encouraging mountain users in Scotland to do their bit for the environment by picking up litter dropped during the ski season in ‘The Big Spring Clean’ being organised by the Ski Club at two different ski areas, Cairngorm Mountain and Nevis Range on Sunday 1st June 2008.

Inaugural Snowsports Sustainability Seminars in Andorra (12 March 2008)
The first ever Snowsports Sustainability Seminars have taken place in Andorra. Aimed at raising awareness about how ski destinations can become more environmentally and socially responsible, the seminars, which were organised by the Travel Foundation, the Federation of Tour Operators (FTO), the Ski Club of Great Britain and supported by Ski Andorra, identified actions that ski businesses can take in order to make them more sustainable.

Ski Freshtracks offers holidays specifically for skiers aged 50+ (22 February 2008)
There are plenty of holidays still to be taken this winter for skiers age 50+ to a range of European and North American ski destinations with Ski Freshtracks (www.skifreshtracks.co.uk). All holidays are graded by skiing standard ensuring skiers will be skiing with those of a similar ability, as well as age. These holidays are called ‘Peak Experience’ within the Ski Freshtracks brochure.

‘Sustainable Snowsports’ Seminars Announced (08 February 2008)
Sustainable travel charity The Travel Foundation, in conjunction with the Ski Club of Great Britain, Federation of Tour Operators (FTO) and Ski Andorra have carried out detailed assessments of how ski resort operations can be adapted to reduce their impact on the environment. The results of these investigations and of seminars in Andorra in February will be used to create a ‘Sustainable Snowsports’ pack, consisting of a DVD, supporting leaflet and posters, to educate snow resort staff about ways to reduce environmental impact in snowsports operations and, in the hotel sector, reduce water and energy consumption by up to 25%.

Hermann Maier awarded Pery Medal by Ski Club of Great Britain (24 October 2007)
Hermann Maier, one of world's greatest skiers, has been awarded the Pery Medal by the Ski Club of Great Britain. During the Ski Club of Great Britain's annual snowsports industry party on Wednesday 24th October 2007, attended by all the VIPs of the snowsports world, Maier was shown on a giant screen being awarded the medal in Vienna.

Snowsports Market Rises Again - 3.4% rise in Total UK Snowsports Market (24 October 2007)
The UK snowsports market has again witnessed growth according to the Ski Club of Great Britain’s annual Snowsports Analysis, rising 3.4% year on year. There are now over 1.31 million people taking wintersports holidays from the UK.

TV Fame for Ski Show Visitors (23 October 2007)
On its 1st birthday, the UK’s first ever snowsports internet TV channel, SkiTV, gives visitors to the Metro Ski and Snowboard Show the chance to have their five minutes of fame as skiers and boarders are invited onto the SkiTV sofa to have their ‘ski rant’. The clips will form part of a ski show special which will appear on the channel next week.

Growth for UK Snowsports Industry - Independent Market Grows by 6% (12 April 2006)
The total UK snowsports market has grown by 2% according to the Ski Club of Great Britain’s 2005 Snowsports Analysis – an independent report on the UK snowsports market. The total snowsports market is estimated at 1.23 million people, which means a growth of 11.5% since the 2000/2001 season.

Deep Snow Bases – Long Ski Season Ahead! (24 March 2006)
With this season’s amazing snowfalls, the 2005/6 season looks to be one of the best for several years. Many resorts have a deep snow base, which means that the slopes should remain in good condition right into April and the Easter holidays. In the high altitude resorts such as Tignes and Val Thorens, skiers and boarders can even enjoy the snow right into May.

Ski Club of Great Britain Launch Seasonal Insurance (25 October 2005)
The Ski Club of Great Britain and Acumus Insurance Solutions have launched a comprehensive insurance product aimed specifically at seasonal workers spending four to six months working in resort. The product, launched under the name Seasonal 100, 200 and 300 provides the choice of three varying levels of cover designed to suit the varying needs of seasonal workers.
