Introduction

Fresh snow fell at our reported North American summer skiing resorts over the weekend. The southern hemisphere resorts that we report on are not yet open for the summer season.

Monday is the last day of the winter season at Molltal in Austria and the glacier will reopen on the 20th June for the summer season.

Tignes, France is now closed for the winter season. None of our reported French summer skiing destinations are currently open.

Zermatt is the only open Swiss summer skiing resort we report on. There is one red run and one blue run open on Monday.

The Presena glacier in Italy is open for snowsports. The spring riding conditions are really good and the snow depth is around 3 metres on the glacier.

In Canada snow fell over the weekend on the Blackcomb glacier at Whistler and more is expected later this week.

Fresh snow fell over the weekend at Timberline on the west coast of America.

Austria

Bright sunny weather will dominate the Austrian ski scene this week with only the odd light cloud blurring the sky.

Monday is the last day of skiing at the Mölltal glacier (120/400cm) until the 20th June when the glacier will reopen for the summer season

At Kaprun (183/292cm) there is skiing down to the mid-station at the Langwiedboden. The conditions are typical for the time of year, packed in the morning but becoming soft by lunchtime.

The Dachstein glacier is closed until the 20th May when it will reopen for summer skiing.

France

The last day of the winter season at Tignes, was Sunday 11th May. The glacier is now closed in preparation for the summer ski season which is scheduled to commence on 21st June.

Val d'Isere is now closed for the winter season but the summer ski season is scheduled to start on 28th June 2008.

Les Deux Alpes is scheduled to open for summer snowsports until 14th June.

Switzerland

Spring riding conditions dominate at Zermatt on Monday. The Gandegg blue run and Furgstallel red run are open along with the Zermatt-Furi and Zermatt-Trockener Steg cable cars, the Furggsattel Gletscherbahn chair lift and the Gandegg drag lift. A combination of sunny and cloudy spells is forecast this week with a chance of some rain on Tuesday.

Saas Fee is now closed for the winter season. They are hoping to open for the summer ski season in the middle of June.

Italy

Not much has changed in Italy this week at the summer skiing destinations we report on. The Presena glacier (300cm) is currently the only open summer ski area we feature in Italy. The spring riding is holding up really well thanks to the deep snow base and there are two red runs, Presena Paradiso and Destra, open for skiing along with the Sinistra black run. A mixture of sunny and cloudy spells is forecast this week with a chance of some rain on Wednesday.

Val Senales is now closed for the winter season but the lifts are scheduled to open again on 14th June for summer skiing.

Cervinia is scheduled to open for summer snowsports until 5th July.

North America

Snow fell at the Blackcomb glacier (234cm) on Saturday and more is expected to fall on Monday and Tuesday. This has refreshed the pistes and improved the skiing on offer. Upper and Lower Panorama are in great shape and 27 trails have been groomed.

In America a light dusting of fresh snow fell at Timberline (518cm) over the weekend, although the snow depth has reduced by almost 20cm since Thursday. The resort reports great riding conditions thanks to a snow depth in excess of 5 metres and cold temperatures at the start of the week. The mercury is forecast to rise on Tuesday and this could bring rain to the area. The Conway’s, Glade and Paintbrush freestyle parks are open from 9am until 2.30pm and the Half Pipe is now open too.

Australia

All of the Australian resorts that we report on are yet to open for the 2008 winter season.
