Most are in the 'Australian Alps', known locally as 'The Snowy Mountains', which crosses the border of New South Wales and Victoria. If not a local, it is an expensive ski trip, due to it's distance and isolation, not only from the UK, but also within Australia. Lift tickets can also be very expensive for the size of the ski area on offer.
