Ski Resort Guide: Australia

Australia: Resorts

Australian ski resorts are located in Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania.
Most are in the 'Australian Alps', known locally as 'The Snowy Mountains', which crosses the border of New South Wales and Victoria.

If not a local, it is an expensive ski trip, due to it's distance and isolation, not only from the UK, but also within Australia. Lift tickets can also be very expensive for the size of the ski area on offer.

Combining a day or two skiing into a holiday to Australia is a great way to experience skiing in a different resort and country, as well as the wonderful Australian scenery, landscape and culture.

Resorts in Australia

Falls Creek: Falls Creek is 356km from Melbourne in Victoria. The resort sits on the edge of Rocky Valley Lake. There are 19 lifts in operation.
Mount Buller: One of the bigger resorts in Australia. It is 225km from Melbourne and has varied terrain to suit different abilities.
Mount Hotham: Mount Hotham is particularly good for advanced skiers and snowboarders. It is located along the Great Alpine Road in Victoria,
Perisher Blue: Perisher is the largest ski area in Australia. There are four separate, but connected, areas providing varied, different terrain.
Thredbo: With the highest vertical drop in Australia, at 621m, it is considered one of the best resorts in the New South Wales.
