Romania is an ideal choice for beginners and intermediates looking for something a little different from a ski holiday.

A third of the country is covered by the Carpathian Mountains, also known as the Transylvanian Alps and offers a very different cultural experience than skiing in the Alps. The best thing about skiing in Romania has to be the price, with a number of tour operators now offering all inclusive packages. Despite being cheap, Romanian resorts still offer a wide range of beginner and intermediate terrain, solid lift systems and good ski schools.

Poiana Brasov: A great resort for beginners with beautiful, natural surroundings. Ski tuition is good, the resort is pretty and locals are friendly.

Sinaia: A pretty, historical spa town which offers good skiing for beginners and early intermediates.
