Scotland is home to the only true ski areas in the UK, with five different Highland centres to choose.

Scotland is a great location for novices to take a ski break before splashing out on expensive ski holidays abroad. It is also a good cross-country skiing destination as there is an abundance of tree-protected, and therefore more snow-sure, tracks.

Resorts in Scotland

Cairngorm (Aviemore): The north-facing ski area on Cairngorm, near the town of Aviemore, affords some spectacular views.

Glencoe: Glencoe is conveniently located, being the closest centre to Glasgow. There are 11km of piste, served by seven lifts.

Glenshee: Glenshee has the largest lift network in the UK, based around three valleys and four different mountains.

Lecht Ski and Activity Centre: The Lecht touts itself as the fun ski area for Scotland, with a wide selection of non-ski snow activities to choose from, such as tubing and devil karting.

Nevis Range: Nevis Range covers 20km of piste situated on Aonach Mor in the mountains of Lochaber, on Scotland's west coast.
