A working city with lots of varied skiing and alternative winter sports galore for non-skiers.
Davos and Klosters have fully collaborated and been renamed and rebranded as Davos Klosters. However, before Davos became a ski resort, the clear mountain air helped convalescing tuberculosis sufferers, who stayed in large sanatoriums. Today the sanatoriums are plush hotels and Davos is a significant working city - Europe's highest - hosting prestigious events from the annual World Economic Forum to professional ice hockey's Spengler Cup. It's a long city, with the two main centres - Davos Dorf and Davos Platz - at either end of a 2km strip of hotels, restaurants, shops, offices and homes. Platz is the centre of most activity.
