The Remarkables
One of the most popular tourist attractions on the South Island, Queenstown is the valley town accessing the Remarkables and Coronet Peak resorts.
Less a town and more a winter sports brand name, Queenstown is New Zealand's answer to Chamonix, Whistler and Niseko in that it is a town that has transcended its roots to become a byword for everything 'extreme'. For a certain type of snow traveller, the very name conjures up images of deep, light powder, bungee jumping and a town with a reputation for nocturnal hedonism. Even if you're interested in skiing the resorts that ring the town, it ranks as a must-see on any South Island itinerary.
