Val Thorens
The highest resort in Europe is a good bet for early and late season skiing. With direct access to the Trois Vallées ski area, Val Thorens is a cheaper alternative to its neighbours. It’s a lively place with good nightlife and excellent skiing.
Val Thorens is all about altitude. With the highest lifts in the Trois Vallées, skiers can expect to find some of the most challenging terrain here. There seems to be something about the height of the place that gives the nightlife a somewhat frenzied air as well: expect to rub shoulders with party-happy Scandinavians in addition to the French and English. There's a friendly vibe here, even if it doesn't extend to the somewhat questionable architecture. While not as bad as neighbouring Les Menuires, Val Thorens lacks the picturesque appeal of Méribel or even St Martin. Still, for party-hungry, budget-conscious skiers looking for instant access to the slopes, it ticks a lot of boxes.
