Valle Nevado
Chile’s alternative to Las Lenas ploughs a similar furrow, albeit without the ridiculous transfer time.
Skiing in Valle Nevado should definitely be filed in the 'once in a lifetime' drawer and is, happily, more viable than Las Lenas thanks to its proximity to Santiago. Set in the middle of the largest skiable domain in the southern hemisphere, snow is all but assured by the height of the resort and the huge amount of terrain. With Santiago only 40-odd miles away and South America's wider cultural diversity to consider as another obvious attraction, Valle Nevado could be the place for that once in a lifetime summer powder fix. Little has changed in the resort itself this year, although the pub in the Tres Puntas hotel has been renovated. Otherwise, the mountain and incredible skiing remain a unique, once in a lifetime experience.
