Ski Resort Guide: Zell am See

Zell am See: Intro

Ski Club rep in resort
Beautiful lakeside resort that combines family facilities with lively nightlife. Oh, and there’s glacier-skiing too.
Lake Zell (credit: Zell am See - Kaprun)
Zell am See is a pretty town on the shores of a lake surrounded by towering mountains. Its pedestrianized centre dates back to the 13th century and positively buzzes in the evenings. Zell is popular in summer and winter, meaning the tourist infrastructure is excellent. It is so family-friendly that it has won various awards, while the lively nightlife appeals to 20-somethings.
Pros
  • A wonderful family resort.
  • A year-round destination with established town and extensive facilities – good for non-skiers.
  • Lively nightlife enjoyed by young and old.
Cons
  • Limited terrain for expert skiers.
  • While it’s fantastic for early and late season skiing, you have to share the Kitzsteinhorn glacier with crowds from Salzburg and Kitzbühel.
