Cornerstone of the Trois Vallées, the largest ski area in the world, Courchevel has a huge range of activities, nightlife and accommodation. It's just a shame you'll still be paying for it this time next year...
Courchevel attracts some of the wealthiest people from all over the world including plenty of nouveau-riche Russians. Based over four levels - Courchevel 1350 (aka La Praz), 1550, 1650 and 1850, named after their altitudes - the atmosphere varies greatly from village to village, with a different, younger clientele being drawn to the area in recent years. Regardless of where they are staying, everyone converges on the huge terrain of the Trois Vallées ski area to take advantage of long runs and short lift queues, all groomed to immaculate status. In short, it's a French classic.
- Courchevel caters for all types of snow seekers so if skiing is not your thing, you'll always find something else to do.
- If you like your holiday to have a touch of luxury, you'll be spoilt rotten.
- As part of the Trois Vallées, it's difficult to get bored of the varied terrain.

- Easy access from neighbouring resorts leads to the best fresh snow being ransacked quickly.
- The cost - unless you're Roman Abramovich (who tried to buy the entire village of 1850 in 2003) you'll struggle to be able to afford to do everything you'd like.
