Ski Resort Guide: Meribel

Meribel: Intro

Ski Club rep in resort
Méribel divides opinion like no other resort in this guide. Its heavy British influence might keep purists away, but the combination of pretty village, strong skiing and rightly legendary partying makes this one of the big French Alp resorts.

Méribel has long had the reputation as an Alpine party stronghold. Some romantics reckon toffee vodka, that staple of the ski-week booze-up, was invented here one fateful season. Certainly, a holiday in Méribel wouldn't be complete without necking a bottle of said loopy juice while dancing around in your ski boots to a covers band at the Rond Point. Yet the stereotype doesn't do full justice to the strengths of this resort. Like all such 'big name' resorts, Méribel is a lot more than the sum of its parts. There is an indefinable air about the place, with so much going on, both up the hill and after skiing, that everybody will find something to enjoy here.
Pros
  • Extremely fluid lift system.
  • Fantastic nightlife.
  • Very ‘English’ atmosphere.
Cons
  • Very ‘English’ atmosphere.
  • Ridiculously busy in February – avoid!
