Andermatt: reviews

  • Andy Lewis (31 March 2006)

Had a 3-day trip there in 3rd week of March. Arrived Sun afternoon (busy), skied Mon-Wed (very quiet). Great snow and some good steep stuff up on the Gemmstock. A good variety of skiing if you're prepared to travel between the various (unlinked) areas. Train services are excellent (for local skiing, and links to Zurich and other cities). Good intermediate skiing (and snow) at Winterhorn (Hospendal) and in the Oberalp Pass/Dieni area. Go midweek and you'll have plenty to keep you happy for 3 or 4 days (though not on the apres-ski front..). Old village is v pretty.

This is the opinion of a skiclub.co.uk visitor, not the Ski Club of Great Britain.

I've just returned from Christmas & New Year in Andermatt - it is a typically quaint village and very picturesque. The skiing areas are spread out at each end of the village, with a short walk to each. A short train ride to Oberalp is well worth your while. There isn't a humungeous amount of intermediate on piste skiing (plenty for you off pisters with a guide or the SCGB Leader!) but enough for a week. Just enjoy the scenery, hotel & food - night life was almost non existant at Xmas.

This is the opinion of a skiclub.co.uk visitor, not the Ski Club of Great Britain.

The resort has now introduced a ski bus linking Hospental and the Gemsstock and, I believe, the Oberalpe ski area. It comprises a half-hourly minibus shuttle. On busy days, the Gemsstock cablecar can get very crowded. An alternative is to ski the Hospental ski area.

This is the opinion of a skiclub.co.uk visitor, not the Ski Club of Great Britain.
