Puy St Vincent: reviews

  • skiclub.co.uk visitor (14 January 2008)

We visited PSV early March 2007 with Snowbizz. Looking for somewhere quiet but offering English-language kid's lessons and enough skiing to keep two competent adults interested for a week. It did all that, provided an excellent week with ski in/ ski out hotel, enough restaurants and very few queues (once you understood the timings of the (mostly French) other users of the resort).

The journey to and from the airport (Turin) was a bit tedious but everything else was very enjoyable indeed. We were amazed at the other Snowbizz customers, enormously loyal, one who had been several times a year for 19 years.

As a family resort i cannot imgjine anywhere better than PSV.

We are due our 4th visit this jan with Snowbizz,& as an intermediate skier with young boys,7 & 10 the ski school & childrens facilities are second to none.

We were recommended to go there by friends & we meet up every year with our new ski buddies that have also fallen in love with PSV!

Everything is in a safe family environment, where the kids can be left to play without being out of sight...

the food & drink is also very cheap as ski resorts go,

there are also family ski guideing trips every afternoon if you want to have some fun in a supervised group, going on parts of the mountain you didn't know were there!

An update on the facilities. the old chair lift and drag lift of PSV 1400 has been replaced by a great 6 places chair lift which takes you quickly to some great slopes and a lovely little reataurant. It is quiet and even looks good !

Having just come back from here [1400], I would like to add a couple of comments. Excellent for family - much quiter than other more famous resorts even at peak times. Good off piste - Col du Bal [may not be correct spelling]. Snow shoeing and husky rides. Also great rock and ice climbing. Vallousie at the bottom of the mountain has more xcountry skiing and has a market each month. Stayed with Alpbase - fantastic, very freindly and extremely helpful

I've been to Puy-St-Vincent three times with SnowBizz. I think it is a lovely little place, with a surprising amount of skiing considering it only has about 75 km of pistes. I've done ski school there twice, and each time have been pleasantly surprised by how good the instructors have been. Being in my late 30s, apres ski to me means a good meal, and conversation, not clubbing, and Puy has plenty of very good restaurants that will not break the bank. Being able to ski to within 3 metres of the ski locker door is also a huge plus. However, part of its pleasure lies in the fact that not many people know about it. Please help keep it that way!!!!
