Vaujany: reviews

  • skiclub.co.uk visitor (05 March 2008)

What a difference a year makes!

Just returned from a repeat trip to Vaujany. We stayed at Les Cascades apartments, ideal situation just 2 minutes walk to ski lift and ski school. Nice big apartment with good views and easy access to the shops and restaurants. Would recommend La Remise restaurant and Chez Bibi for a great take away raclette!

The nursery/garderie is as good as before and the snow garden has been extended with a new magic carpet. My only gripe is ESF - Last year they were fantastic, small class sizes, good English speaking instructors, a very positive experience. Not so this year, average of 15 children to a group! English reluctantly spoken and sporadically. Very much a let down on the previous year. Not sure will return as the whole resort is expanding so much and slopes much busier and there is always a new up and coming resort that has to try harder.

What a difference a year makes! The secret of Vaujany is out and it is busy! Great location some lovely restaurants, but still only one small and expensive grocery shop. The resort is expanding all the time new magic carpets and extended quad lifts. We stayed at Les Cascade, super apartment 2 minutes from big cable car and ski school. Booked with Peak Retreats, very professional and organised. The only thing that let Vaujany down was its ESF, complacency has taken over and groups for children numbering 12+ and English spoken sporadically- not good.

I am loathed to tell you about this hidden jewel which we visited in January 08. This place is perfect, it is easily accessible from the airport, the transfer is about 1 1/2 hours.

We stayed at Kick Ski chalet Franrick were we could not have been looked after any better, the place was amazing and the staff truly wonderful.

Vaujany is a small picturesque Alpine Village, which is almost undiscovered, the runs are amazing, the chair lift system wonderful. The ESF ski school is great with very small classes and perfect English speaking instructors. I hope we can retun next year, my children are counting the days.

We visited Vaujany last year during February half-term. What a fantastic little resort with a huge ski area. The garderie in the village was superb, very professional and welcoming to my son, he loved it! All aspects of this holiday were super, the size and quality of the apartments, the lovely brand new quality ski equipment that was hired out, the small class sizes with the ESF. I only hope it does not become a victim of it's own success. It will inevitably develop and grow but hopefully the attention to detail will remain. The massive cable car is great even when some comedian starts moo-ing! We are going again this Feb so watch this space!

Just had a great holiday in Vaujany over Xmas 2007 despite several injuries. Blame them on the excellent Alpes d'Huez snowpark however!

Stayed in catered Chalet La Maitreya, looked after excellently by Anne and Pascal, 2 ex-pat Dutch running a very comfortable outfit with fabulous food. Nothing was too much for them, even offering to pick up my injured son from Grenoble Hospital on Xmas day!

Drove us the 2 minutes to the cable car, which whisks Vaujany holiday makers rapidly to the top of the Alps mid section without ever having encountered a queue. Unlike those trogging around Alpe d’Huez to buses even before they even get near a lift. The easiest way to ski d’Huez, and also the quieter side of the large ski area.

We have just returned from a fabulous week in Vaujany staying at Kick Ski. We were a mixed ability group and Vaujany was perfect for us. I cannot fault the accomadation at Kick Ski - the standard of accomodation and catering were fantastic, and the hospitality second to none.

The ski instructors were also great.

All in all I cannot recommend Vaujany and Kick Ski enough.

Great place to stay. Recommend staying here over Alpe d'huez. Outside esculator provides excellent access from higher parts of village to the gondala's; extremely welcome after 8 hours on the slopes. Small area above Vaujany is away from main busy areas of alpe d'huez and provides some lovely long, quiet and well groomed runs easy access to alpe d'huez ski area as long as you can ski reds confidently. Slopes getting over and back are actually some of the best around rather than just a way between ski areas. Upper slopes can get incredibly cold with a bit of wind though.

Just returned from fabulous week with Ski Peak. Vaujany is wonderful - linked to Alp D'Huez by state of the art lifts. Fantastic range of mountain restaurants with good food and great service. Vaujany is small but well served by discrete escalators to take you up the village levels, a fabulous sports centre with pool and hammam all funded by the hydro electric plant in the valley below which has brought the region great wealth. Highly recommended. Excellent ski school too
