Ski Resort Guide: Siviez

Siviez is in the very heart of the 4 valleys ski region - quite simply one of the very best ski areas in the Alps. It is also the highest of any of the villages / resorts in the area, at 1750m asl, so if you want doorstep skiing and guaranteed snow (cannonned all the way down), then this is the one for you. The small resort has one shop and a few cafes / bars, a hotel, lots of apartments (which can be hired through Interhome.ch), a couple of restaurants and a sports shop. Whilst not famed for its nightlife, its proximity to the slopes and awesome skiing is second to none. For EXCELLENT budget accommodation, the 62-bed hostel Les Louerettes, is an absolute MUST! The whole hostel does not have to be hired - you can hire part of it. The owner bends over backwards to make sure you have everything you need all the time. The food is plentiful and of very good quality, especially considering the price. Accommodation is warm and dry in rooms from 2 to 10 beds.

I didnt actually stay in Sivez, we were staying at Nendaz, but we drove there most days. We found it much quicker and easier to do this than using the lift when we wanted to go to Mont-Fort or Verbier. Siviez only has one or two runs but for beginners they are fine. not to steep, croweded or to long. If ,like me, you like skiing or boarding in the four valleys but are on a limeted budget I would reccomend staying at hostel in Siviez. Swiss hostels are better than many hotels i've stayed in in other countries. The resort is tiny so the walk from any hostel or hotel to the lift is 2 or 3 minutes. There is never any queing at the lift. If you time your journey from hotel to Mont-Fort it would twice as quick as from Verbier itself. The minus points are plain to see, one bar and one hotel, no night buses and an expensive taxi ride home from Nendaz. I'm planning on returning next season and staying in a hostel for two weeks. it should work out the same cost as staying in Verbier for one week and i'm sure the lack of night life will help my boarding and wallet.

Some of the best skiing I have ever had. Snow great, people friendly and the views spectacular. Note not much for beginners and not night life. Try Nedaz if you need these.
