When I started skiing in the 70s, skis were thin & very long, we all aspired to have skis longer than anyone else. Once a passionate, “advanced leisure skier”, I discovered the ski club and found that skiing over 40...

A late starter to skiing but I have managed to cram a lot into the last few years. I got a real taste for powder after completing a season in Fernie but I am equally happy to cruise the blues all day. I spent five...

  • Michael Ellis Michael Ellis 04 Mar 2017 to 18 Mar 2017

Having recently retired I now have plenty of time to indulge in my passion for skiing. I spent 36 years in the Marines where I learnt to ski, mainly in the snowy arctic tundra in Norway on long telemark skis and leather...

The Ski Club Instructor programme is designed to suit you.

When you ski with a Ski Club Instructor you can expect to be with a group of similar ability and share your love of the sport with like-minded people. Each day on the weekly programme is aimed at a different level - early intermediate, intermediate or advanced. This means you get to ski on a day that matches your standard, so you get the most from your skiing.

  • Early intermediate: You can expect to ski on a wide variety of blue and red runs. The pace of the day is varied but the Leader will go at the pace of the slowest skier and there will be a number of pit stops at mountain restaurants.
  • Intermediate: You will be primarily on red runs skiing at a good pace. If conditions are right then there may be the odd black run and, except for on-piste days, possibly a bit of gentle off piste if the snow is good. You need to be reasonably fit, but not that fit!
  • Strong intermediate: You will be skiing at a medium pace on red and black runs, and are likely to be skiing some off-piste runs. You need to be reasonably fit.
  • Advanced/expert: You will quickly progress to black runs, moguls and off piste. If there's some good powder to be had then you may get straight into it. Expect a fast day with not much stopping so you need to be fit enough to keep up.
