Summary
There wasn’t really any fresh snow in Austria over the week but poor weather and low temperatures have kept the snow in good condition. Last week Stubai Glacier received 60cm of fresh snow and the benefits of this are still being enjoyed.
Switzerland and Italy both enjoyed sunnier skies on Thursday with fairly low temperatures still. Presena Glacier and Zermatt both offer good skiing although fairly limited.
This week is Whistler’s last week of winter operations before they close. Blackcomb Mountain had eight lifts operating on it on Monday with good spring snow to ski. The Horstman Glacier reopens for skiing on 23rd June.
All of our featured southern hemisphere resorts are yet to open for the 2012 season.

Thursday 24th May was another cloudy day in Austria with poor visibility on the glacier slopes. All glaciers scheduled to be open were open though so there is good skiing available if you don’t mind the poor visibility.
Nine lifts were running on the Stubai Glacier (350cm) on Thursday and the slopes were very quiet. It’s fairly cold for the time of year too so a temperature of just below freezing on the glacier means the snow remains in good condition.
The freezing level is expected to remain around 2900m for the weekend and into next week so temperatures on the glacier will be quite low.

Zermatt (160cm) had much nicer weather on Thursday 24th May. The lower temperatures during the week helped keep the snow in good condition. Similar weather is expected for the weekend ahead.
Italy
Limited skiing can be enjoyed on the Presena Glacier (300cm). The weather was a lot better on Thursday 24th May than it was on Monday so skiing was much more pleasant.

North America
This is the final weekend of the winter ski season at Whistler (237cm). Eight lifts should be running over the weekend and the snow is good on the upper areas with plenty of it still left. They close on 28th May but the Horstman Glacier will open again on 23rd June for a month of summer skiing.
There was 10cm of fresh snow at Timberline (358cm) in America on Wednesday 23rd May. The fresh snow fell all the way down to base level which is unusual for the time of year. It does mean that conditions on the upper mountain are great again.
