Snow overview for Austria
Thursday 27 November 2014

Despite the amount of cloud seen across Europe, Austria had the best day on Thursday 27th November as most of the cloud was quite thin and pockets of sunshine were seen, particularly in the Tirol region.

Ischgl (0/40cm) is now open for snow sports and started its day with 26 lifts in operation. The best conditions can be found at altitude as the resort runs are still a little premature and require more snow cover. That being said there is plenty of good riding higher up and the link into Samnaun, Switzerland is open if you fancy skiing across the boarder.

Mayrhofen was scheduled to open this weekend but it has been pushed back until 6th December due to maintenance being carried out on the lift system

For those who are heading out to the Austrian slopes this weekend the forecast looks like a mixture of sunshine and cloud but please be aware there is lots of cloud expected on Sunday, which could bring light snow fall at altitude.

Forth time skiing in the Ischgl / Samnaun area and It has never failed to deliver a great holiday. Not well know by the Brits if you have not tried it you are really missing a trick. Suitable for all but best for intermediates to advanced skiers and borders - great slopes, lots of off piste opportunity and the Après Ski and night life is second to none if you want it. Free bus links to Galtur, Kappel and See are excellent and certainly worth getting the whole area pass. Galtur in particular is a very family friendly resort and is also very snow sure but for the more advanced also well worth a day out.
