Snow overview for Austria
Thursday 25 May 2017

Fresh snow fell overnight at some of our featured Austrian resorts, and conditions up high on the glaciers continue to be very good for the time of year.

At Hintertux (280cm) it was a mostly cloudy day with temperatures of around -5C at the summit, and 10cm of fresh snow has provided a further boost to already excellent conditions. In particular the snowpark was looking like it has received a lot of attention of late, and for those heading up today and tomorrow, the slopes are currently very quiet.

Dachstein (390cm) and Kaprun (10/245cm) both received small amounts of fresh snow, and conditions have certainly improved since some of the warmer temperatures and sun at the start of the week.

The glaciers at Pitzal and Molltal are yet to open for the summer season, but the latter has a projected opening on the 15th June.

Niederau and the Ski Jewel area offer more than you imagine

Niederau offers in my opinion more than you would at first sight imagine. Over many years I have been there a number of times and I have always enjoyed it for many different reason. There is a certain very friendly charm about the area that arises due to the local population wanting you to enjoy yourself and come back again. Many visitors are repeaters.

The slopes at Niederau offer a perfect location to really improve your fall line skiing technique without going a long distances or to high altitudes. When you can ski all the runs at Niederau following only the fall line without zig zags, then you can say that you can really ski! The ski school offers good quality enjoyable instruction in English to all levels of skiing ability. A free ski bus from the village takes you in about 13 minutes to Auffach where there is a lot more skiing available and a link over to Alpbach in the next valley eastwards along the Tirol.

The prices are reasonable by skiing comparisons. Generally I can say that you get value for money. I have stayed at the Hotel Austria many times and can recommend it.
