Snow overview for Italy
Tuesday 22 April 2014

Around half of our featured Italian resorts remain open after the Easter weekend. Alagna (40/200cm) will be closed through this week but then will reopen again for 25, 26 and 27 April. They’ll then close again before reopening for the final weekend of the season at the start of May.

Passo Tonale (0/500cm) has skiing on its upper slopes and the Presena Glacier available. There was quite a lot of fresh snow over Easter up high and the glacier looks in fantastic shape for the time of year. Fresh powder can be found off piste in most areas.

Passo Tonale is a great value resort and has something for everyone, frequented mainly by locals (Italian’s) and this is my/our fifth or sixth trip (losing count!), it’s about 3 hours from Verona airport.
The resort is mainly for beginners or intermediates as there are only a few black runs on the glacier – that said as an overall package we've struggled to better it hence we've been back numerous times. Wide open slopes with a pass that covers a wide area and you can/could ski down to Ponte di Legno and or go via the cable car.
Sunday’s can be busy as it’s only a couple of hours ‘up the mountain’ however during the week I didn't queue for a lift and haven’t since going there.
We have stayed at the Hotel Gardenia and it’s by far the best ‘ski’ hotel I/we have stayed in, we've been to Austria, France and other parts of Italy and this for me is the best hotel we've stayed in.
The après ski is ok, but not huge, so if you are looking for a lively night out – Passo Tonale may not be for you.
Lots of good restaurants in town if you do want to eat out – with the quality always good and good value for money.
This year – we almost had too much snow as did most of the Dolomite's and it snowed most of the time we were there – a couple of feet in one night, meaning it was powder the next day!
